Meditation and
relaxation. Significant factors in psychic events?
Meditation is purported to promote or enhance psychic phenomena.
From my limited understanding, the object is to "quiet" your
mind. By quieting your normal constant thought activity, you can
more easily detect those subtle faint sources of knowledge that are
normally masked by normal thinking.
There are many kinds of meditation, but I've only practiced a few.
Mainly I've done Transcendental Meditation,
but I've done some meditations as I read about them in various
books.
Relaxation a precursor to meditation
Relaxation is usually used to prepare for meditation, at least in my
experience. There are a wide variety of relaxation techniques.
Relaxation is usually something done before trying to do self-hypnosis as
well.
One technique has you get into a comfortable position like laying down
or sitting in a comfortable chair. ( I like sitting in a chair for
relaxing since when I go through my relaxation routine while I am in a
horizontal position I usually fall asleep.) Then one at a time you
contract your muscles or muscle groups tightly for a few moments then let
them relax.
Another method of relaxation is to first find a comfortable position,
then count backwards from ten. Between each count you softly tell yourself
to relax a particular body part such as your head, face, arm, chest, etc..
Start with your head or scalp, and relax each part of your self, counting
backwards, finishing with your toes.
There are plenty of books available to use as guides to both relaxation
and meditation, and I'm sure they can be found online as well. I haven't
looked, but I will be looking soon and I will update this page as I find
information. Just getting started on this website.
Relaxation becomes easier with practice. Once you've practiced enough,
you can completely relax in just a few seconds.
